The primary purpose of SOCAR Midstream Operations LLC (SMO) is to ensure the implementation of SOCAR’s unified policy in the field of oil transportation and to organize the management of operations in this area. SMO is responsible for the management of oil pipelines, the transportation and storage of oil within Azerbaijan and abroad, as well as the implementation of other related projects.
Registered on 24 July 2014, SMO became the Commercial Operator of the South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) in 2015 and its Technical Operator in 2020.
In March 2023, under SMO’s management, the transit of Kazakh oil via the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline was launched.
By the order of the President of SOCAR dated 4 August 2023, SOCAR’s new corporate structure and the distribution of responsibilities among its executive bodies were approved. The functional division between SOCAR’s Integrated Planning, Optimization and Logistics (IPOL) segment and Integrated Gas segment was also established. Accordingly, on 1 April 2025, SMO was reorganized following the separation of SOCAR Midstream Gas Operations LLC (SMGO) from its structure. SMO, which remained within the IPOL segment, was entrusted with representing SOCAR’s strategic shareholder rights and interests in relation to oil pipelines and associated facilities.
Effective from 8 June 2026, SMO became the Operator of the Western Route Export Pipeline (WREP), and from 1 July 2026, it assumed the role of BTC Manager and the BTC/SCP Common Operator.
